Todd Merrill Studio in New York is, undoubtfully, one of the best art galleries in the world and we will have a chance to see its exclusive, limited edition and unique collectible designs at Design Miami/ 2018.
It is known thanks to its sophisticated union of twentieth-century furniture and lighting. This pioneering gallery was one of the first to promote American artisans such as Karl Springer, James Mont, Tommi Parzinger, Paul Laszlo, Paul Evans, Philip and Kelvin LaVerne, Samuel Marx, Arthur Elrod, Harvey Probber, T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, and Vladimir Kagan.
The gallery also owns a precious selection of European mid-century design furniture and lighting by Dunbar, Monteverdi-Young, Widdecomb, Grosfeld House, Venini, Vistosi, Barovier, and Murano.
Merrill’s special view enchanted many art collectors, designers and curators. As Lenny Kravitz told the Financial Times in 2008, “His taste is impeccable – he’s absolutely the best at what he does.” In 2009, Elle Décor wrote, “[Merrill has] a fearless eye and a passion for distinctive furnishings.”
Todd Merrill background stands on the antiques market, a family business that is on its third generation. Collecting wonderful art pieces was always in his blood, it is a part of his essence. His careful attention goes to the years that followed World War II, a moment of prosperity and creativity in American history and decorative arts, a rainbow after the storm.
In 2008, the gallery brought to life Custom Originals, a line of custom produced upholstered furniture designed by Merrill himself. Merrill’s signature creations reflect his vast experience with twentieth-century design and knowledge of contemporary art.
With the gallery’s support, new design talents have the chance to be internationally known and appreciated in places like: Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York; the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston; the Museum of Art and Design in New York; the High Museum in Atlanta; the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; and the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
Also, they can show their groundbreaking creations merging several arts and techniques in the best art exhibitions in the world, like: The Salon Art + Design (New York); Collective Design Fair (New York); Art Miami (Miami); Untitled (Miami); Design Miami (Basel, Switzerland and Miami); FOG: Design + Art (San Francisco); the Pavilion of Arts and Design (New York, Paris, and London); Masterpiece (London); Gallery Seoul (Seoul); Spring Masters (New York); The International Fine Art & Antiques Dealer Show (New York); Zona MACO (Mexico City); Tajan (Paris); Design Days Dubai (Dubai); Art Wynwood (Miami); Art Toronto (Toronto), among others.
We can’t wait to see what surprises Merrill has for us in this years edition of Design Miami/ 2018.
