Gérald Vatrin is one of the best european master artisans dedicated to glass sculpture and glassblowing. Originally from Nancy, with degrees from the fine art school of Épinal and from CERFAV, he combines his skill with a vast knowledge of History of Art.
Glass is his main mean of expressing himself. He enhances it through engravings, pigments and transparent effects. His vibrant and delicate work is inspired by shapes in nature and cultural melting pots, and tries to convey emotions. Each piece of art opens up a world of visual and tactile sensations.
His glass sculptures are made with hand blown and shaped glass using movement and gravity. Once cooled, the glass is covered with metal oxides that turn black when fired. After the final firing of the glass, the two hollow spaces are decorated with braided leather.
Passer par un trou noir est parfois trou blanc is an art piece made of transparent blown glass with decorated matte black enamel engraved with a diamond cutter and features a white braided channel.
Coulisse III is an artwork made of black opaque hand-blown ovoid glass that was carved with diamond cutters. Two hollow spaces break through the smooth surface. These have been decorated with braided white-grey leather.
