Moderne Gallery, one of the best art galleries in the world, will gift us with its presence at Design Miami/ 2018. It is known internationally for having the finest collections of vintage 20th century furniture, lighting and accessories.
Founded in 1984 by Robert Aibel, the gallery likes to focus in decorative arts and includes works by Arthur Espenet Carpenter, Wendell Castle, David Ebner, Wharton Esherick, Sam Maloof, Edward Moulthrop, George Nakashima, James Prestini, Paul Soldner, Peter Voulkos, among many other brilliant designers.
Her home, the Old City section of Philadelphia, is full of limited-edition, exclusive and unique designs, from French and American Art Deco to Wharton Esherick art pieces. In 1985, the gallery was the first to promote the remarkable George Nakashima. Today, the gallery is always ready to fill the needs of dedicated art collectors, providing vintage works of art by Sam Maloof, Wendell Castle, Arthur Espenet Carpenter, David Ebner, Peter Voulkos, Toshiko Takaezu, Viola Frey, Edward Moulthrop and William Hunter, for example.
Despite specializing in vintage art, Moderne Gallery is also interested in innovation, it’s always trying to improve its approach and the way it exhibits its master pieces. The gallery is also known for her selection of books on 20th century classic design and craft and for receiving the “Best of Philly Award, for Deco Furniture” from Philadelphia Magazine in 2000.
