Maison et Objet 2019 wants to show us that it is possible to create breathtaking contemporary designs and be nature-friendly at the same time.
This is where Bentu, a Chinese innovative brand, comes in. Chaozhou in China is a classic rural society, isolated and timeless, where nothing seems to change, and the modern rush is absent. For thousands of years their pacific culture is based on tea and ceramics.
In the 20th century, economic globalization swallowed the world and many old towns disappeared, bringing their precious cultures to the land of oblivion along with them.
However, even in the 21st century, Chaozhou maintain its traditions. It supplies 70% of the total ceramic needs for the world, becoming the largest ceramics production base. Nevertheless, behind this huge commercial value hides massive pollution.
Bentu is trying to recycle wasted ceramics that are not degradable and hard to reutilize, while it aims to preserve Chinese unique traditions, against the homogenization of the world. This independent design brand, founded in 2011, decided to start by including manufacture in the creation of their products. They are proud of being experimental, creative and multidisciplinary. The products they generate are needed by everyone, because they focus on functional design.
The brand believes that all raw materials, techniques and cultures deserve the same level of respect, all of them are noble, all of them are treasured.
Their products, made of recycled materials, include lighting, indoor and outdoor furniture, wall decorations and accessories of the finest quality.
