The first day of London Craft Week 2019, 8 May, will be an amazing introduction to the finest craftsmanship ever seen. The Talk and Tour “Sculptor and Ceramicist Lucille Lewin: In Conversation with rakesprogress Magazine” (18:30-20:30) is a great example of the extraordinary initiatives we will be able to admire and participate in the event.

Lucille Lewin, a South African born British sculptor working in porcelain, glass and metal, will unite in her studio, the remarkable Victoria Gaiger and Tom Loxley, editors of rakesprogress magazine, to discuss her experience and work. Known for her mesmerizing organic sculptures, Lucille’s talents are coveted all over the world. Nevertheless, much of her inspiration is born the worship of the natural world she finds on her doorstep.

In her central London studio, with its small courtyard garden, Lucille crafts beautiful and pure white ceramic treasures. Her abstract pieces raise harsh questions about our destructive relationship with the planet and her work also owes much to the fresh beauty found in nature: from the uncontrolled eruption of the first sprouts in spring, to an intricate bird’s nest made of moss and sticks, to a fragile portion of broken coral.
