Maison et Objet 2019 is a paradise, where all the talented minds, souls and hands in the art and design fields come together in harmony. Therefore, it is not a surprise to find the best artists, master artisans and designers in the world while exploring this art showcase. Sebastian Herkner is one of them and we will get a chance to hear his thoughts in a noteworthy conference.
In this case, age means nothing. At 37, the German designer Sebastian Herkner, who trained at Offenbach University of Art and Design, is following his journey thanks to several collaborations with international design houses (no less than 21 projects during 2018 for Moroso, Dedon, Thonet and Lintello, to name but a few), and over the course of the past decade he received around thirty awards in recognition of his innovative yet traditional work.
Maison et Objet always had the mission to honour designers whose originality and excellence impact their generation and change their fields of work forever. Herkner’s astonishing career path gave him the attention of the trade fair, that decided to turn the 2019 spotlight on this rising star.
Since he opened his studio in the Frankfurt suburb of Offenbach am Main back in 2006, Sebastian Herkner has continuously focused on creating designs that fuse tradition with creativity, new technology with craftsmanship.
This approach was, however, adopted long before the design world started navigating in this now luxury trend. We can say Sebastian Herkner was a pioneer in merging the past with the future in his creations and that’s why he deserves to be celebrated as one of the best contemporary designers.
