Through a continuous process of research and experimentation, Camille Jacobs, one of the best european master artisans dedicated to glass sculpture, has developed a passion for the complicated and unpredictable medium that is glass.
Camille first trained as a stained-glass artist, that is why she is interested in flat, two-dimensional sheets of glass. She develops them into three dimensional objects partially screen-printed with clear and often geometric forms. Each of her art pieces plays on a contrast between the interior and exterior. Nature, environment, science, art history and music are continuous sources of inspiration.
Through this research she explores the notion of abstraction enhanced with color and her own theories. Color acts as physical and mental wellbeing. Her goal is to achieve a perfect balance between shape, dimension and color, according to the message she wants to spread.
Her vases are composed of multiple layers of clear glass colored with varnishes and fired. The layers are fused in the kiln to obtain a large homogenous slab. This slab is slumped, cut and polished.
The tulip has always been an inspiration in art, especially during the Golden Age in the Netherlands when this flower was introduced from Turkey. Tulpomania are seven multicolored glass vases, each representing a variety of tulip. The varieties are embodied through the title of glass sculpture named after an existing species: Queen of the Night, Burning Heart, Honky Tonk, Golden Artist, Florette, Sun Catcher, and Green Spring.
