Jean-Marie Fiori<\/strong><\/a>, an artist supported by Galerie Dumonteil<\/strong> that will be present at PAD Geneve 2019<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, was born in 1952 ,in Limoges, France, and graduated from the National School of Fine Arts<\/strong> (\u00c9cole Nationale des Beaux-arts) in Paris. He devoted himself to sculpture art<\/strong>, specially to the representation of animals. Before that, he was a painter<\/strong> and decorator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In his workshop inhabited by his \u201cbeasts\u201d, as a successor of the realistic artists<\/strong> during the inter-war period, he works alabaster<\/strong> and marble<\/strong> by carving<\/strong> them. The delicate translucency of the material allows him to grow his talent by giving his creations the rich tones of color that characterizes his work.<\/p>\n

The sculptor<\/strong> adapts his technique to the different animals that he portrays, from the pure, smooth lines of oryx or panda to the rough, waved fur of ram and bear.<\/p>\n

During several years of dedicated practice<\/strong>, he improved his know-how<\/strong> using the material bronze<\/strong> and enhanced his imaginary bestiary with designed furniture<\/strong> and monumental installations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 1997, he was the architect<\/strong> of \u201cThe Passage of Animals (Tour aux b\u00eates)\u201d<\/em> in Majorque, Spain; and in 1999, \u201cThe Dolmen of Serris (Dolmen de Serris)\u201d<\/em> for Marne-la-Vall\u00e9e. In 2000, he conceived a zodiac for La Monnaie de Paris (Hotel des Monnaies<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Soon his admiration and friendship with the decorator<\/strong> Alberto Pinto<\/strong> grew. He brought plastic arts<\/strong> closer and closer to the Decorative Arts<\/strong>, as Claude<\/strong> and Fran\u00e7ois-Xavier Lalanne<\/strong> did in their ages. Transforming deers into chairs and falcons into tables, with sense of humor and originality, he continued to surprise professionals<\/strong> and art enthusiasts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
