At the age of 28, in Basel 2009, Nacho Carbonell<\/strong><\/em><\/a> was nominated the designer<\/strong> of the future. He was born in Valencia, Spain in 1980, and graduated with high honours from the Design Academy Eindhoven<\/strong> in 2007. His outstanding handcrafted work<\/strong> is included in the permanent collections<\/strong> of the Fnac-Fonds national d\u2019art contemporain<\/strong>, France, the Groninger Museum<\/strong>, Netherlands, the MoMA<\/strong> San Francisco, the Art Institute of Chicago<\/strong> and the Mint Museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuciferase\u201d<\/em> and \u201cTime is a Treasure\u201d<\/em> were two collections produced exclusively for Galerie BSL<\/strong><\/a>. Each work is a unique<\/strong>, handmade masterpiece<\/strong>. Nacho Carbonell breaks all conventions and brings to life iconic creatures<\/strong>. His works are narratives, experiments on materials<\/strong>, so they enchant our imagination<\/strong>, sensitivity<\/strong> and ability to dream, due to their tenderness and their poetry.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuciferase\u201d<\/em> was Nach\u2019s first work with lighting<\/strong>. It is an ecosystem of luminous organisms which intrigue the admirer thanks to their colors<\/strong> and textures<\/strong>. \u201cThe root of this word luciferase is \u2018carrier of light\u2019* and reflects the system used by flora and fauna living in the abyss, in the total obscurity found at greatest depths of the oceans. Even more than lights, I consider these pieces like creatures which glow with light.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

The exterior soft, velvety materials<\/strong> of these pieces, made of silicone<\/strong> and resin<\/strong> mixed with sand<\/strong>, cork<\/strong>, plaster<\/strong> or metal dust<\/strong>, resemble the skin of unidentified species.<\/p>\n

The interior delicate and translucent textures<\/strong>, created with silicone<\/strong> or epoxy resin<\/strong> mixed with colored pigments, are shaped as thorns, filaments and rocky surfaces. Some of them have a translucent sparkle of fine stones such as amethyst, quartz or malachite; others the seductive eye of a predator from the great depths; or even the avid mouth of a carnivorous plant.<\/p>\n
