Genta Ishizuka<\/a><\/strong><\/em>,<\/strong> is one of the best talented\u00a0japanese lacquer artist<\/em>.\u00a0<\/strong>He is one of the talented finalists in this year\u2019s edition of Loewe Craft Prize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This master artisan was born in 1982, in Kyoto, in Japan, and he is a japanese artist renowed for his masterpieces of the finest quality. He studied and he completed his MFA at\u00a0Kyoto City University of Art Slater<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0. He is one of the Best Young Artist Award by City of Kyoto with an exhibition in the ArtCourt Gallery<\/strong><\/a>, one of the most important Kyoto\u2019s Art Gallery.<\/p>\n

He is an emerging artist working, in a two and tri dimensional way, through his own methodology<\/strong> on the basis of traditional Urushi, <\/strong>a Japanese decorative technique, Dry Lacquer<\/em>, and a method of forming a sculptural figure like papier-m\u00e2ch\u00e9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ishizuka elevates this humble form through his expert use of lacquer.\u00a0He explores the inseparable and fundamental relationship between the existences of the things and the imaterial perception that emerges gloss. His process is totaly handmade and in it\u00b4s application\u00a0 he can applied several layers of pure, clear or colour pigmented Urushi<\/strong>. Gold foil is also used and it is applicated at the final step as an adhesive.<\/p>\n

In \u201cMembrane\u201d collection the artist was inspired by the sculptural technique used in 7th\u00a0to 8th\u00a0Century Japan for creating Buddhist\u00a0sculptures. This collection came from a world that is connected to both to the production method that utilizes elastic cloth, as well as applying the Urushi lacquering<\/strong> that covers the entire sculpture.<\/p>\n

The allure of the gloss of his material creates an immediately sensual attraction that is contemporary in its appeal, althought the ancient urushi lacquer technique. The\u00a0 Ishizuka<\/a>collections\u2019 are presented in some galleries and museums such as Vitoria and Albert Museum<\/a> in London, UK.<\/p>\n
