Marc Newson<\/strong><\/em><\/u> is considered one of the most influential designers<\/strong> of his generation. He worked in several fields, and his followers include some of the most renowned<\/strong> and prestigious<\/strong> brands<\/strong> in the world, from various sectors such as manufacturing<\/strong> and technology, transportation, fashion, and luxury goods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Newson<\/strong><\/a> was born in Sydney, Australia in 1963. He lived and worked in Sydney<\/strong>, Tokyo<\/strong>, Paris<\/strong>, and presently resides in London<\/strong> where his company, Marc Newson Limited<\/strong>, is based since 1997. He has ongoing collaborations with companies such as Apple<\/em>, Louis Vuitton<\/em><\/strong>, Montblanc<\/em><\/strong>, Herm\u00e8s<\/em><\/strong>, Nike<\/em>, Hennessy<\/em>, Dom P\u00e9rignon<\/em>, Jaeger-LeCoultre<\/em>, and Beretta<\/em>, just to name a few.<\/p>\n

Not only he controls his own company, but he also has crucial roles at clients\u2019 companies, he was the Creative Director<\/strong> of Qantas Airways<\/i> from 2005-2015, and Designer for Special Projects at Apple<\/i> since his first involvement in the design of the \u201cApple Watch\u201d (2014), for example.<\/p>\n

Marc Newson graduated from Sydney University in 1986 and with the support of an Australian Crafts Council<\/strong> he organized his first solo exhibition<\/strong> at the age of 23. The exhibition featured his \u201cLockheed Lounge\u201d, a riveted aluminum<\/strong> chaise longue, that has arguably become one of the most iconic contemporary design works<\/strong>. 30 years later, it already acquired four world record prices at auction for work created by a living designer. His design pieces remain highly coveted on the market and by 2010 accounted for 24% of total auction sales in the category for Sotheby\u2019s<\/i>, Christie\u2019s<\/i>, and Phillips<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Marc is the only designer represented by the Gagosian Gallery<\/strong><\/a>, and leading museums around the world supported solo exhibitions of his work.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, his work is presented in the permanent collections<\/strong> of many major museums including: The Museum of Modern Art <\/strong>(MoMA<\/strong>) and Cooper Hewitt<\/strong>, Smithsonian Design Museum<\/strong> in New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art<\/strong>, the Design Museum<\/strong> (London), V&A Museum<\/strong> (London), Mus\u00e9e National d\u2019Art Moderne<\/strong><\/a>, Centre Pompidou<\/strong><\/a> (Paris), Mus\u00e9e des Arts D\u00e9coratifs<\/strong><\/a> (Paris), Vitra Design Museum<\/strong> (Germany), Museum Angewandte Kunst<\/strong> (Frankfurt), Museum f\u00fcr Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg<\/strong>, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen<\/strong> (Rotterdam), Israel Museum<\/strong> (Jerusalem), Powerhouse Museum<\/strong> (Sydney), and the National Gallery of Victoria<\/strong> (Melbourne). He has recently been appointed Chair of the London Design Museum\u2019s International Design Council<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
