Since the 1990\u2019s, Ayala Serfaty<\/strong><\/a> built a unique path in the world of contemporary design, creating and crafting conceptual lights and furniture. Her art pieces are described by scholars as \u201cmulti-disciplinary\u201d<\/em>, a \u201cfusion of art<\/strong>, craft<\/strong>, and design<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>, the vanishing of the line between the natural and the abstract. We will be able to admire her approach focused on ancient traditions, trying to rescue them and revive their spirit and energies in an unexpected, peculiar and innovative way, in PAD<\/a> Paris 2019<\/strong><\/em><\/u> on Galerie BSL<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s showcase.<\/p>\n

She was born in Tel Aviv in 1962 and graduated in Fine Arts<\/strong> of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, and in the Middlesex Polytechnic in London. Serfaty lives and works in Tel Aviv. For over twenty years she exhibited her masterpieces in museums worldwide such as the London Design Museum<\/strong>, the Cooper Hewitt Museum<\/strong>, the Centre Georges Pompidou<\/strong><\/a>, just to name a few. Her artworks are also included in the permanent collections of several museums in the US: Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/strong>, NY, Museum of Arts and Design<\/strong>, NY, Museum of Fine Arts<\/strong> in Boston, Museum of Fine Arts<\/strong> in Houston, Mint Museum<\/strong>, Corning Museum of Glass<\/strong>, Indianapolis Museum of Art<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ayala Serfaty is globally celebrated for her \u201cSOMA\u201d sculptural lights: mesmerizing immaterial luminous sculptures<\/strong> which evoke biomorphic forms and are included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/strong> and the Museum of Arts and Design<\/strong> in New York.<\/p>\n

Each \u201cSOMA\u201d work is unique and handmade<\/strong> of thin glass<\/strong> rods condensed in a translucent polymer membrane that magnifies the glass calligraphy-like sculpture. \u201cSOMA\u201d enchants the viewer, bringing him to experience nature in its spiritual and emotional dimensions. The presence of life forms creates an irresistible movement towards the sublime. Ayala Serfaty does not sculpt nature, she rather gives form to the breath of life.<\/p>\n

In her recent series, \u201cRAPA\u201d, Serfaty creates furniture<\/strong> made of handmade textile<\/strong>, crafting felt out of wool, linen and silk fibers which she carefully gathers from all over the world. \u201cRAPA\u201d a transformed connection with textile. Resembling a rocky surface but very soft to the touch, these seats defy the usual sensory boundaries while incarnating the corporeal, telluric appeal of life.<\/p>\n
