All over Europe, the ancient traditional crafts<\/strong> are at the origin of Scandinavian design, Portugal\u2019s delicate azulejos<\/strong> facades, Italian fashion houses, and the Swiss watch and clockmaking industry. The finest craftsmanship<\/strong><\/em><\/u> is born from a tradition of know-how<\/strong> passed onto many generations over centuries. April will be the month to celebrate them and Covet Foundation<\/strong><\/a> is thrilled to collaborate with INMA<\/strong><\/a>, treasuring the master artisans and their precious talent.<\/p>\n

Craftsmanship incorporates creative m\u00e9tiers<\/strong>, the transformation of materials, and the restoration of cultural heritage<\/strong>, and is characterized by the mastery of skills combined with an unique artistic approach. Everyone working in the craft sector is forging Europe\u2019s cultural legacy<\/strong> for centuries, a legacy which is renowned around the world. Today, they are reinventing their m\u00e9tiers and interacting with thousands of international workshops<\/strong>, manufacturers and designers.<\/p>\n

During European Artistic Craft Days 2019<\/strong>, a Europe-wide event, coordinated by France\u2019s Institut National des M\u00e9tiers d\u2019Art<\/strong>, visitors will be able to discover the heritage of different countries by visiting places that are usually closed to the general public, and meet the craft professionals who are generally working out of sight behind castle ramparts, the walls of historical monuments, the curtains of the most famous theatres and operas, and within museums. Visitors entering these workshops will be able to discover the fascinating work of cabinetmakers<\/strong>, ceramicists<\/strong>, jewelers<\/strong>, leather dressers, gilders<\/strong>, blacksmiths, and so on.<\/p>\n

Showing visitors a new path to follow, the European Artistic Crafts Days provides an excellent opportunity to meet the exceptional men and women who maintain the rich cultural heritage of several European countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal<\/strong>, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.<\/p>\n

Covet Foundation is a tribute to master artisans and the finest craftsmanship, we always try to discover the most groundbreaking ways of marrying ancient arts<\/strong> and contemporary design<\/strong>. To honor our mission, we will organize Workshops to celebrate the European Artistic Craft Days in which talented artisans working with Covet Group and some invited external craftsmen<\/strong> will showcase and explain their precious techniques to the general audience.<\/p>\n

Our goal is to bring art enthusiasts closer to the makers<\/strong> whose hands create breathtaking masterpieces. The Workshops will happen from 2pm to 6pm between the 1st and the 7th day of April, everyone is welcomed and free to join, since it won\u2019t require prior registration. Covet Town<\/strong>, in Gondomar, Oporto, is where the adventure will begin. If you are curious about the ancient and traditional Portuguese arts<\/strong> of marquetry, painting, wood carving<\/a>, jewellery making, metal chiseling and embroidery<\/a>, this is your chance to learn more and, perhaps, discover a new passion.<\/p>\n

Our team of dedicated woodworkers<\/strong>, metalworkers<\/strong>, jewelers<\/strong> and plastic artists<\/strong> wants to share its remarkable knowledge with the young generation of possible future craftsmen, so our program will also be focused on the ages 16 to 22. Art is an essential part of human life, yet in Covet Foundation we are learning and teaching how to achieve the highest level of excellence, the finest arts<\/strong>. It is time for people to see the behind the scenes of most sophisticated art pieces, to know the faces of its creators<\/strong>, to touch the materials<\/strong> from which art is born, to be a part of the creative process. Only then the community will be able to value the time, effort and dedication needed to master a crafting technique.<\/p>\n
