Jean-Marie Fiori, an artist supported by Galerie Dumonteil that will be present at PAD Geneve 2019, was born in 1952 ,in Limoges, France, and graduated from the National School of Fine Arts (École Nationale des Beaux-arts) in Paris. He devoted himself to sculpture art, specially to the representation of animals. Before that, he was a painter and decorator.

In his workshop inhabited by his “beasts”, as a successor of the realistic artists during the inter-war period, he works alabaster and marble by carving them. The delicate translucency of the material allows him to grow his talent by giving his creations the rich tones of color that characterizes his work.

The sculptor adapts his technique to the different animals that he portrays, from the pure, smooth lines of oryx or panda to the rough, waved fur of ram and bear.

During several years of dedicated practice, he improved his know-how using the material bronze and enhanced his imaginary bestiary with designed furniture and monumental installations.

In 1997, he was the architect of “The Passage of Animals (Tour aux bêtes)” in Majorque, Spain; and in 1999, “The Dolmen of Serris (Dolmen de Serris)” for Marne-la-Vallée. In 2000, he conceived a zodiac for La Monnaie de Paris (Hotel des Monnaies).

Soon his admiration and friendship with the decorator Alberto Pinto grew. He brought plastic arts closer and closer to the Decorative Arts, as Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne did in their ages. Transforming deers into chairs and falcons into tables, with sense of humor and originality, he continued to surprise professionals and art enthusiasts.
