Studio MVW was founded in Shanghai by Chinese designer Xu Ming and French architect Virginie Moriette. It is known for their sculptural, architectural designs and ability to subtly connect contemporary Western and Eastern aesthetics. With over twenty years of experience in architecture, interior and furniture design, Studio MVW has won numerous awards in Asia and Europe, including the Architectural Digest AD China 100 Design Talents Award (2017, 2015 and 2013); Wallpaper* Design Award (2018, 2014); ELLE Decoration International Design Award (2013). The renowned Galerie BSL is one of the studio’s supporters and promoters.

“JINSHI” is a precious collection of furniture and lights focused on pink jade, an extraordinary natural gemstone with a luxurious powder transparency. “JINSHI”’s literal translation means “Gold Stone”. Each work is a true jewel for the home. “JINSHI” shining consoles and “JINSHI” lamps combine natural pink jade illuminated by hidden LEDs and a structure in anodized stainless steel colored in brass with a subtle pink gold shade. In the “JINSHI” coffee table, a large pink jade top looks like it is levitating on three golden spheres. Each piece in the “JINSHI” collection is also available in a gunmetal grey anodized version. “JINSHI” displays an interaction of curves and lines that defines a minimalist balance of forms while the sensuality of pink jade offers a refinement unique in today’s furniture design.

“XIANGSHENG” is an elegant bronze furniture collection which plays with structural forms and void, empty space and solid surfaces, oxidized bronze and brushed bronze. This collection incarnates Studio MVW’s multicultural philosophy. In the West, a solid object is seen in terms of material and form and admired for that. In the East, the concept of emptiness is meaningful, and can be traced back to Taoist philosophy to represent the spirit void of thought, a quiet, patient place from which the subliminal can flow. “XIANGSHENG” is an exploration of how solid and void can be combined in perfect unity to become functional, useful, and inspirational. In “XIANGSHENG I”, champagne colored brushed bronze surfaces are combined with oxidized bronze with an Etruscan green patina. In “XIANGSHENG II”, champagne colored brushed bronze surfaces fuse with oxidized bronze with an intense brown patina.

“BLOOMING” is the tale of a Chinese “blue and white” icon that crossed centuries and frontiers. Born during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), the Ming vase finds new garments and functionalities under Studio MVW’s creative impulse. With its new deep blue lacquered dress, this ancestral traditional form opens up, literally blooming and transforming itself into a cabinet, a console, a floor lamp or a suspended light, revealing immaculate white secret receptacles. The elegance of the straight lines anodized in polished and brushed brass finishes meets the softness of curves; the precious, bold aesthetics belong to contemporary trends. With “BLOOMING”, Studio MVW emphasizes once again their talent in questioning the memory of forms and materials.

“SHUIDI” is a collection of bookcases in anodized stainless-steel colored in copper. Inspired by ancient Chinese gardens and shaped like natural water droplets, these bookcases can divide a space without visual barriers.
