In this year’s edition of project Doppia Firma by Michelangelo Foundation and Fondazione Cologni, the collaboration between Emmanuel Babled and Fundação Espirito Santo is one of the most awaited ones to admire at Milan Design Week 2019 (9 to 14 April).
Emmanuel Babled was born in France in 1967 and graduated in Industrial Design at the European Institute of Design in Milan. He was an invited professor and developed workshops at Domus Academy in Milan and the Design Academy of Eindhoven. He started his activity as a designer in Paris and moved to Milan in 1992, the city where he founded his own studio and worked for 18 years. Before settling in Lisbon in early 2016, he lived for five years in Amsterdam.
Since the start of his career, he brought to life a wide range of unique pieces and limited editions for prestigious manufacturers such as Venini, Baccarat, Rosenthal and Covo. These pieces now belong to private and public collections all around the world. He also designed industrial products, furniture and lighting for Bulgari, Ittala, Dupont de Nemours, Fontana Arte, Oluce, I&I, Laurent Perrier, Waterford Crystal, Felice Rossi, Henge, Giannini, Idee Co Ltd, Marzoretti Ronchetti, Viceversa, Vistosi among many others.
Fundação Ricardo do Espirito Santo Silva was born in 1953 when its founder donated the Azurara Palace and part of his private collection to the Portuguese State. Therefore, the Foundation was born with his name, created as a Museum-School with the purpose of preserving and teaching Portuguese Decorative Arts.
Nowadays, in addition to the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Foundation owns 18 workshops dedicated to traditional Portuguese arts and crafts that keep alive a precious heritage of know-how and ensure the conservation and restoration of ancient treasures.
We can’t wait to see the result of their partnership! Stay with us to find out more about Doppia Firma, Milan Design Week 2019, contemporary design and craftsmanship.
