Ammann Gallery, one of the best art galleries in the world, will gift us with the chance to admire it’s wonderful collectible designs at PAD Monaco 2019 in the end of April. The gallery supports extraordinary and talented contemporary designers, artists and master artisans, such as: Shi Jianmin, Studio Nucleo, Zaha Hadid and Florian Brokenhagen.
Shi Jianmin is one of the most cherished artists in China whose work involves fine art, design, architecture and landscape design. Born in Xi’an in 1962, he graduated from the Xi‘an Art School in 1982 and completed his studies at the Central Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University in 1986. Shi Jianmin creates his masterpieces by fusing form, sentiment and poetry. In his design, the artistic concept is the core and the functionality of the object is often subdued by the sculptural form. Through his explorations of shape and the combination of several different elements unique pieces are brought to life.
The work of Florian Borkenhagen (b. 1959) willfully makes the distance between art and design vanish, he challenges the perception of everyday objects through his deconstructions and transformations. The prosaic found-object becomes an artwork and over its adaptation a deeper meaning is born. His pieces often invite interaction and provide a new view on reality by reusing recognizable objects in conceptual and humorous ways. Movement is also an important theme for Borkenhagen, both in the materiality of his dynamic sculptures but also in the journey itself.
Zaha Hadid (1950-2016) was a worldwide renowned architect who constantly pushed the boundaries of architecture and urban design. Each one of her dynamic and innovative projects built on over thirty years of revolutionary experimentation and research in the fields of urbanism, architecture and design was outstanding. Her work included all the different fields of design, ranging from the urban to products, interiors, and furniture.
Founded in Turin, Italy in 1997, Studio Nucleo is a collective of four artists including the director, Piergiorgio Robino, Stefania Fersini, Alice Carlotta Occleppo and Alexandra Denton. This interdisciplinary team is active in the field of contemporary art, design and architecture. The name of the studio, “Nucleo”, is a synonym of research, innovation and self-analysis and the studio’s objective is to find a connection between art and design in their work. Nucleo tries to incorporate identity, history and interlacing time frames in the core of their projects.
