Garrido Gallery is one of the best exhibitors to admire at PAD Monaco 2019. Juan and Paloma Garrido were born in Madrid on the 14th of June 1965 and the 28th of July 1968, respectively. In 1982, they finished their high school studies. While they were concluding their superior studies, under the supervision of their father, they began to experiment and work in the family’s workshop.
In 1989, Juan graduated from the Superior School of Marketing and later, in Business Administration, studies which he merged with the History of Silversmiths course from the School of Art and Antiques of Madrid. On the other hand, Paloma graduated in Business Administration and Economic Management.
In 2001, the dedicated siblings participated together in a Spanish Silversmith course which they completed in Madrid. This academic and precious treasure chest of ancient knowledge made them aware of the evolution of styles within the history of silversmiths. They applied this know-how in the restoration field to repair antique pieces and later to design new creative yet functional artworks.
After several years of specific training and of practice of the different techniques needed to be an expert working in silver, Juan and Paloma Garrido started their professional paths and extended their knowledge not only in the area of antique restoration, but also to bring to life new designs.
Since their childhood, they have felt a natural attraction to silver. It was their father, the Master Damián Garrido (1931-2002), who cultivated in them the talent and love for the art, allowing the most ancient of the silversmith workshop traditions to prevail.
He taught them to appreciate the meticulous and demanding nature of fine silver-making. They eventually were able to preserve this rare form of art, for which they have received numerous design prizes. Nowadays, they preserve the legend of their father by bringing to life their own creations, inspired in architectonic references and geometric elements. Following the footsteps of their father, Juan and Paloma are the second generation of silversmiths in the Garrido family. With the collaboration of other experts in their workshop, they brought this art to contemporary design, being renowned worldwide.
