T*I*N*A, This Is Not America, is an award winning independent art & design studio based in Porto city, Portugal, Established in 2013 by Elias Marques & Sérgio Correia, both graphic designers and educators at ESAD – College of Art & Design.
Dued to the owners’ defiance of the established ideas, they rise contemporary issues teasing out society through ephemeral or permanent urban interventions called “This Is Not America”. So T*I*N*A’s identity reflects a fresh contemporary national critical approach, with the introduction of the traditional cock instead of the American eagle and the assumed reinterpretation of the American symbology.
It’s acronym T*I*N*A emphasises the national dimension, remembering the abbreviation of a popular Portuguese name. There are ideals, beliefs and symbols that they put under scrutiny, using creativity as mean of intervention, inventing their own universe, a world of awareness, values and causes.
TINA, the independent art & design studio, develops its works using several using different languages and art manifestations always with it’s principal goal – intervention. The main field of work is Communication Design, Graphic and Social Design, Urban Art, Identity, Illustration, Editorial, Typography, Motion Graphics, Web.
TINA, This is not america project won already several awards such as Communication Arts 2018 ilustrations and animation of elements representation and a Merit Award – Graphis Poster Annual 2018.
TINA, independent Art & Design studio also dedicates it’s attention to innovative projects which go hand in hand with it’s mission and identity. Elias Marques & Sérgio Correia accepted the challenge posed by CULTURE to design two stools, Wood metamorphosis and Mabela, from Artsool Collection to be handcrafted using wood carving technique and Straw web work by the master artisans Júlio Leal and Dora Maria. CULTURE is a portuguese project which has the proposal to elevate the craftsmanship, supported by Covet Foundation.
