The skill of filigree is extremely rooted in Portugal’s history and culture so Boca do Lobo created a new round mirror with a contemporary design that pays tribute to this technique. Being Portugal one of the only countries that still treasures this beautiful craftsmanship, the brand wanted to honor this remarkable technique, with such an extraordinary piece. Traditionally, this technique is connected to luxury design and fine craftsmanship, which is why the brand began the year with an innovative filigree creation, the Ring Filigree Mirror.
Filigree is considered one of the most delicate types of jewelry metalwork, it usually features precious metals, like gold and silver, in art pieces created with small and detailed beads and twisted threads merged together or onto an object. Its delicateness frequently makes us remember the texture of lace. This ancient technique creates pieces with the finest elegance, often giving us the impression of being made with lace threads. Nowadays, it remains very popular in Asia and particularly in India. From 1660 to the late 19th century, filigree became very popular in French fashion.
There are a lot of items conceived by machines naming it as filigree, but this kind of details, are something that anything but the hands of extremely talented artisans simply can’t reproduce. The large Ring Filigree Mirror edge is made of brass cords gilded in 18k gold, conceiving an exquisite gold round frame.
Entirely handcrafted, with each brass cord fitted with meticulousness, the Ring Filigree Mirror is a brilliant homage to Portuguese culture, reflecting the eternal beauty of real craftsmanship.

They took filigree to a whole new level by creating big-scaled limited edition pieces, like this mesmerizing wall lamp, featuring a cricket made entirely of the most detailed silver filigree.

The Lucanus Sconce by Boca do Lobo, brings a sophisticated symbiosis between a rare insect figure and the pure beauty of the silver filigree. The plate is made of polished brass and gold plated and completes this masterpiece. Photo: © Boca do Lobo
