Starting today, London Craft Week will bring us the chance to admire wonderful craftsmanship masterpieces and learn ancient crafting techniques with the most talented master artisans.
Visitors will be able to learn how to upholster a stool during the Shoreditch Design Rooms’ open weekend and then take home their finished piece. Sunday 12 May will offer the opportunity to participate in a mass upholstery ‘make-a-thon’ to benefit a local charity.
Shoreditch Design Rooms is a busy and vibrant upholstery workshop and school in the heart of the East End. They offer both evening and daytime leisure and accredited upholstery courses, suitable for all levels of experience. Whether you want to restore a favorite furniture design or have a complete career change, they can guide you through the process, with a team of skilled teachers with years of experience in this fascinating art.
The workshop produces beautifully handcrafted upholstery using both traditional and modern techniques. Shoreditch Design Rooms pride themselves on their expertise on furniture of all ages and complexities and are particularly well known for their work with mid-century furniture.
If you visit them during their open weekend to take part in a class on Saturday 11 May, we will be able to bring to life and take home your own upholstered stool in Camira fabric. All materials are included in the course.
On Sunday 12 May, you can also join a giant ‘make-a-thon’ with their students to benefit local charity, the Albert Kennedy Trust. If you watch upholstery makers in action, maybe you will also fall in love with this beautiful technique.
